Book Review: Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M Auel

What an amazing series.'Clan of the Cave Bear' practically kidnaps you and holds
you hostage until the last page. The entire series sucks you into a prehistoric
world where mammoths and woolly rhino share the land with neanderthal's, who
call themselves 'Clan', and homo sapien, whom the Clan call 'The
Others'.

Jean M. Auel clearly has done painstaking research and it really
pays off. Her characters feel so real and the pages just seem to come to life
and surround you in a prehistoric world. You find yourself caring about each
character as if they are your family too.

Jean Auel goes into such fine detail whether that be on hunting or plants and their uses or the preparation of food. You really get a sense of what it must have been like to live in
prehistoric times.

The whole series is beautifully written and extremely addictive and quite simply once you are hooked there is no going back. You just have to follow the series through to the very end to find out what
happens.

I did find, however that at times the books can get a bit, "By heck, steady on!" By this I refer to the scenes of a sexual nature. To be honest it almost verging on porn.

Still, The Earth's Children Series is the best adult fantasy series that I have read since reading Raymond E. Feist's books.

I would certainly recommend 'Clan of the Cave Bear' and the rest of the series to anyone.
